Annette’s Writing History

I have been involved in science and technical writing for more than 30 years, as a consultant, science journalist, co-author of technical books, and lead technical writer in aerospace. The latter history involved technical writing and editing of design documents with engineers in aerospace manufacturing for the Boeing 787 and 777X propulsion programs. Some of the Boeing projects that preceded my work with design engineers included coordinating and merging multiple sections of an electronic Boeing Accounting Manual, a training guide for ordering company telephones, pricing documents for the transition of telecom services to new suppliers, and documentation for Airplane Level Integration Testing (ALIT) for the 787 wing and fuselage.

A manager on the 787 program noted:

“Annette is fluid in conversation and comprehension. She has proven to be a sought after resource and is always first choice to perform technical writings. Her attention to detail and her fact gathering ability is greatly thought of and respected. Her listening skills will often drive out additional questions and thus getting deeper and more knowledgeable into the subject matter.”

While consulting through my own company before working for Boeing, I was a west coast correspondent to two international presses on ISO 14001 implementation case studies at global corporations and U.S. government and military organizations. I researched these organizations, interviewed executives, and wrote case studies and industry-wide surveys on their use of the standards. I worked with technical experts to develop handbooks on quality and environmental international standards for the American Management Association, and worked with an executive at Environmental Resource Management (ERM), a global consulting firm, in the development of three editions of a handbook—each reflecting the latest changes in the standard—on the process of implementing an ISO 14001 environmental management system (EMS) that was used by corporate clients and sold on Amazon.

I also subcontracted on a proposal for the maintenance of U.S. Navy carriers via Todd Shipyards, edited and produced a workbook on world hunger with professional nutritionists that was reviewed by the World Food Program in Rome, and researched and developed corporate histories for the International Directory of Company Histories (IDCH), among other projects.
